Andrew has been part of our growing family since 2023. Having graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2014.
Dr Peter Gilkes founded Alfords Point Medical Practice in 1988, offering high quality medical care for the local area. Alfords Point Medical Practice is a Private Billing Practice. Bulk Billing may be available for Pensioners and Health Care Card holders, at the doctor’s discretion, but is not available on Saturdays or for house calls and may not include procedures such as suturing and skin lesion excisions.
Over recent years the costs of running the practice have continued to increase, particularly related to equipment and technology, and the processes of accreditation and oversight. Medicare rebates were frozen for some years and have had small increases only. Therefore, from February 1, 2023 we will be unable to bulk bill unless you are a pensioner or health care card holder. A reduced gap may be applicable at the doctor’s discretion. Please speak to the doctor at the time of consultation if you have financial difficulties.
Fees for SURGERY or PHONE consults:
Brief Consult(less than 5 minutes): $60.00
Standard Consult (up to 20 minutes): $85.00
Long Consult (more than 20 minutes ): $140.00
Extended Consult (more than 40 minutes): $200.00
We can claim your Medicare rebate for you on the spot at the surgery. All you need is your cheque or savings keycard and Medicare will deposit your refund instantly.

Please ring – this will allow us to give your appointment to another patient
Missed appointment
Patients who repeatedly do not keep a booked appointment and do not ring to cancel, may be liable for a non-attendance fee.

Doctors at Alfords Point Medical Practice can arrange for recall SMS MESSAGES to be sent to you as a reminder to have your health checks using our own reminder system and national or state reminder systems and registers. If you do not wish to be part of this reminder system please notify our staff. We have a Practice Nurse to help the doctors streamline your health care. Pathology collection can be arranged at the time of your consultation.
